The body of a 40-year-old man reported missing since Sept 8 was found in a drain in Simpang Empat, Perlis, with no signs of foul play, police say.
KANGAR: The body of a man was found in a drain in front of a grocery shop at Batu 1 ½, Jalan Tambun Tulang, Simpang Empat near here today.
Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said police received information about the discovery at about 10.45 am from a resident who noticed a foul odour coming from the drain in front of his house.
He said police arriving at the scene found the 40-year-old victim lying face down in the drain, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and trousers.
“Initial inspection at the scene found no elements of foul play,” he said in a statement today.
Yusharifuddin said further checks revealed that the victim’s mother had lodged a missing persons report at the Kangar police station at 5.16 am yesterday.
Initial investigations showed the victim, who was single and lived with his family, suffered from schizophrenia and was receiving treatment at the Psychiatric Unit of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah here.
He had been missing since Sept 8, and the case has been classified as sudden death while investigations continue.
