PITAS: A 57-year-old man was found dead, believed to have drowned, near the coastal waters of Kampung Rosob here on Friday.

The victim, Muslim Masapi, was discovered unconscious by rescuers at 1.55pm, about 200 metres from where he was initially reported missing.

Pitas Fire and Rescue Station chief Noor Jali Maslah said the victim was believed to have drowned while fishing with his son at the beach around 11pm on Thursday.

The body was recovered by a joint search and rescue (SAR) operation involving police, and civil defence personnel, and confirmed dead by medical officers from Pitas Hospital.
