PENAMPANG: The body of the trapped 97-year-old man was recovered on the second day of search and rescue (SAR) operations after a landslide buried a two-storey house in Kampung Sarapung here.
The man was found beneath the collapsed structure on Friday morning after teams of firefighters, police and villagers worked through debris and floodwaters to reach the site.
Another victim, a woman, had been pulled out earlier by residents and was reported to be in stable condition with only minor injuries.
Rescuers faced difficulties as several access roads were submerged and damaged, forcing them to walk three kilometres with equipment before heavy machinery was brought in.
The victim’s body was carried 750 metres from the scene to safe ground before being handed over to police, and continuous monitoring of the affected area will be carried out.
