Body wash refills introduced in push to reduce plastic use

Aveeno has introduced body wash refill pouches in the Philippines, highlighting a shift toward reduced plastic use and lower-cost options for consumers during Earth Month this April.

The refill pouches are designed to allow users to replenish existing bottles or other dispensers. According to the brand, each pouch uses 77 percent less plastic and costs 20 percent less than the regular 532 mL bottle.

Aveeno said the refills contain the same formulations used in its body wash range, which are endorsed by Coleen Garcia, Sofia Andres and Enzo Villacorta. The products are made with colloidal oat, which the brand said helps lock in moisture and soothe dry skin.

The line includes two variants. The Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash is intended for sensitive skin and contains the brand’s Triple Oat Complex, a blend of oat oil, oat extract and colloidal oat. It is formulated to help soothe dry, itchy skin and support the skin barrier. When used with Aveeno Skin Relief Lotion, the product offers up to 72 hours of moisturization.

Dr. Vanika Viardo, a board-certified dermatologist, described the ingredient blend’s properties.

“Formulations with Triple Oat Complex contain colloidal oatmeal, oat extract and oat oil. It has anti-inflammatory properties, helps soothe irritated skin, it relieves itch, [and] it has anti-oxidant, prebiotic and barrier repair properties to boost the protective function of our skin’s outer layer which makes it the perfect ingredient for dry and sensitive skin,” she said.

The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash, meanwhile, is formulated for normal to dry skin. It contains prebiotic colloidal oat and is designed to help maintain the skin’s moisture barrier. The brand said it provides up to 24 hours of moisturization, or up to 48 hours when used with Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

Both variants are described by the company as soap-free, dye-free and hypoallergenic.

Villacorta, who the brand identified as a long-time user, said the refill format reflects practical and environmental considerations.

“Using these [Aveeno Body Wash] refills don’t just save time and money, but they also save the environment... Refill packets are great and the fact that they chose to release this in the Philippines really shows how many people use this for their sensitive skin,” he said.

Aveeno said the initiative aligns with parent company Kenvue’s “Healthy Lives Mission,” which focuses on supporting personal health, environmental sustainability and responsible practices.
