Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is making a personal attempt to secure Reece James to a new contract.

Boehly has made James' contractual situation among the club's priorities.

The Daily Mail says formal discussions over a new deal are yet to get underway, however Chelsea are insisting James will be offered a new deal once the summer market shuts.

Chelsea need to act knowing Manchester City and Real Madrid are both interested in the 22 year-old.

James' current £70,000-a-week deal is regarded as well short of market value given his current status.
