With the severe ongoing heatwave, temperatures in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district have been pushed up to 46°C. This has created bone-melting heat conditions not just for humans, but wildlife too.
In one incident, a bat that was resting on a tree reportedly lost strength and fell to the ground due to the intense temperature. Fortunately, there were some lawyers present who immediately stepped in to help it. They tried to cool it down by gently pouring water and creating a damp surrounding area to revive it.
The video, shared on X by a user identified as (@dk_lavania), was captioned, “Amid a searing 46°C heatwave in Bundelkhand’s Hamirpur, a bat collapsed from a tree inside the district court complex, apparently unable to survive the extreme temperatures. Lawyers gathered around the exhausted animal and tried to revive it with water."
After a while, it appears to respond by licking the water, surprising those present. The animal then gradually regains some movement, and its condition improves slowly.
A user wrote, “This is so sad, next time people must call up any animal or bird hospital (google can provide more info) they do send volunteers to help. But great try by lawyers and people around who tried to help the animal."
Another reacted, "Saw the same outside my house earlier this week. Looks like bats are suffering a lot in this heat.’
A third remarked, "The cost of environment damage we humans have done is being paid by the voiceless animals and birds. Year after year scorching heat!! Breaking record. It’s high time, that government brings in a very crucial detailed policy to mitigate the climate crisis."
