Bong Go urges focus on public service amid Senate leadership tensions

SEN. Bong Go urged government leaders Tuesday to focus on public service, as political tensions rose amid the volatile Senate leadership and the impending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

“Don’t lose hope. Let’s just help each other. Who else can help but us, fellow Filipinos? Let’s just make sure we take precautions,” Go said in a video message as he dispatched his team to Barangay BF Homes in Parañaque City on Wednesday to provide assistance to families displaced by a recent fire.

The relief operation, held at Fourth Estate Elementary School, benefited 176 families. Each received cash aid, grocery packs, snacks, vitamins, shirts, balls, and water containers. Selected beneficiaries received shoes, mobile phones, and bicycles.

Go acknowledged the efforts of national government agencies that conducted on-site assessments to ensure that displaced families receive sufficient and sustained support.

The senator authored and co-sponsored measures aimed at strengthening disaster response and fire prevention capabilities, including Republic Act (RA) 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, and RA 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every city and municipality nationwide.
