British pop singer Bonnie Tyler is conscious again after spending about five weeks in a medically induced coma, her management said in a statement on Monday.

"Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains seriously ill and is being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Portugal," her management told dpa.

Doctors treating the singer, best known for her husky-voice 1980s power ballad "Total Eclipse of the Heart," remain confident that she would recover, but this would still take some time, the statement added.

"We therefore unfortunately have to announce that we will cancel all remaining performances this summer or, where possible, postpone them until next year," her management said. This affects all appearances through the end of August.

Tyler underwent bowel surgery at a hospital in Faro, Portugal, at the end of April. A week later, her condition deteriorated, and doctors placed her in a coma.

The Welsh singer was due to begin a European tour on May 22 that included stops in Germany, Austria, and Denmark before concluding in Wales in December

Her management said there is still hope that the concerts scheduled for later in the year may still go ahead as planned.
