SOOK: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) is boosting the agri-food sector in the interior through the Agriculture For All Mini Carnival in Kampung Karamatoi Laut, here.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the interiors such as Sook, Nabawan and Keningau have enormous potential to become food production hubs given their vast land and natural resources.

“Interior districts have the potential as production centres for rice, vegetables, fruits and livestock. This shows the Federal Government’s commitment to developing agri-food in rural areas,” he said.

The programme organised by the Farmers’ Organisation Authority mobilised the Ministry’s agencies including LKIM, Fama, Mardi and Agrobank to expose farmers, breeders and agro-entrepreneurs to market opportunities and modern technology.

Arthur, who is also Pensiangan Member of Parliament, also officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for Kampung Karamatoi Laut Tamu Market – Fama’s 53rd project in 2025.

The market is expected to be completed in December 2025 and can accommodate 80 traders.

Four other tamu upgrade projects are under construction namely Kanibongan (Pitas), Gadong (Beaufort), Dataran Bengkoka (Pitas) and Ranau.
