A BORDER enforcement officer stationed at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) was detained yesterday over suspected involvement in a so-called ‘flying passport’ operation, authorities confirmed today.
The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) stated that the officer, apprehended at approximately 11:30 a.m., was under scrutiny by the AKPS Integrity Unit at the BSI Passenger Arrival Hall.
“A team of officers from the AKPS BSI Integrity Unit, conducting routine surveillance, inspected an officer assigned to the MyBorderPass counter. It was found that the officer had failed to comply with Administrative Directive No. 01 of 2024 concerning the procedures for carrying, storing, or using telecommunications devices while on duty,” the statement read.
The officer admitted to not surrendering his mobile phone to the supervisory counter before starting work and was found in possession of two devices during his shift. AKPS noted that he could not provide a satisfactory explanation for this breach.
Further investigations led to the discovery of eight international passports, including six from China, one from Vietnam, and one from Indonesia.
The documents were found in a black bag stored in a compartment on the officer’s Honda Vario motorcycle parked within the BSI premises.
The officer has been detained under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1996 for unlawfully possessing passports or travel documents for the use of another person.
All passports, along with the motorcycle and two mobile phones, were confiscated to facilitate ongoing investigations.
“AKPS constantly reminds all officers deployed at entry points to uphold departmental integrity. We will not compromise with any officer who disregards directives or engages in illegal activities,” the agency emphasized. - December 8, 2025
