Kota Kinabalu: Esports teams will battle for a share of a prize pool of up to RM6,000 when the Borneo Esport Cup 2026, a Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament, takes place at Kompleks Karamunsing here on Nov 7 and 8.
The two-day tournament, themed “Borneo’s Battle. Legends Rise.”, will begin at 9am and is expected to bring together players and esports communities from Sabah and other parts of Borneo.
Organised by WrecklessWolfPack, the event is held in collaboration with Borneo Fusion, House of Otaku and Borneo Cosplay Gathering (BCG).
Chairman of WrecklessWolfPack, Mohd Arif Zakaria said it also receives support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Esports Integrated (ESI) and Rakan Muda.
He said the tournament would provide a competitive platform for Mobile Legends players while giving local talents an opportunity to gain tournament experience and exposure.
It is also aimed at bringing together competitive players, gamers, content creators and esports enthusiasts as part of efforts to strengthen the local gaming community.
According to him, the event would give participating teams an opportunity to test their skills, teamwork and strategies against other competitors in a structured tournament environment.
“For emerging players in Sabah, such competitions can provide experience in handling competitive matches and developing team coordination and game strategies.
“The tournament also seeks to provide a platform for local esports talents to build networks with other players, organisers and members of the wider gaming industry.
“With the esports sector continuing to attract young people, grassroots tournaments are becoming an important avenue for players seeking regular competition and opportunities to develop their skills,” he said.
Mohd Arif added that the Borneo Esport Cup would also encourage greater interaction between different segments of the local esports community, including players, content creators, organisers and fans.
He said the participation of community partners such as Borneo Fusion, House of Otaku and BCG is expected to broaden the event’s reach beyond competitive gaming.
WrecklessWolfPack said continued support for grassroots esports activities was important in creating more opportunities for young players to participate in organised competitions.
They also expressed hope that the tournament would contribute to the development of Sabah’s esports community by providing players with greater exposure and opportunities to compete.
The event is expected to attract Mobile Legends players and supporters from Sabah, as well as participants and gaming enthusiasts from other parts of Borneo.
Members of the public and esports enthusiasts are invited to attend the tournament at Kompleks Karamunsing during the two-day event.
The tournament will provide two days of competitive Mobile Legends action while giving local players an opportunity to gain experience and exposure in the regional esports scene.
