While most employees would be happy with a free lunch or an extra day of leave, staff at one Chinese media company may be receiving a brand new iPhone Duo instead.
MediaStorm, a video production company in China, has reportedly announced that it will give the latest foldable iPhone to every employee.
The company is also said to be covering the personal income tax incurred by the gifts.
All 154 employees will receive one
According to a post shared on Threads, the announcement was made internally earlier today.
All 154 employees at the company are expected to receive an iPhone Duo, making it a rather costly employee benefit.
As valuable gifts provided by companies are subject to personal income tax in China, MediaStorm will reportedly cover the taxes for its employees as well.
Based on the estimated combined cost of the phones and taxes, the generous gesture is expected to set the company back around RMB3 million, which is approximately RM1.8 million.
Not the company’s first iPhone giveaway
This is not the first time MediaStorm has made headlines for giving its employees the latest Apple devices.
Back in 2024, the company gifted an iPhone 16 Pro to every employee and intern as a way of thanking them for their contributions.
At the time, it was reported that the company had around 100 employees and interns. It also covered all associated taxes so staff members would not have to pay anything out of pocket.
The 2024 giveaway marked the third consecutive year that MediaStorm had gifted its staff the latest iPhone, following the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 and the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023.
A company tradition continues
If the latest announcement is accurate, it appears MediaStorm’s annual tradition is still going strong and has grown alongside its workforce.
With 154 employees now reportedly receiving one of Apple’s most expensive devices, some bosses may have just found themselves facing very high expectations from their own staff.
