Wing pair Marcus Tavernier and Justin Kluivert struck, with Tavernier hitting a double. Oli McBurnie struck for the Blades in injury-time.
The hosts didn't muster a shot on target until the 88th minute.
With his goal, Kluivert became only the third player to score in Europe's top five leagues.
Victory was Bournemouth's first at Bramall Lane since 1987 and they move into 16th on the table. Sheffield United sit third from bottom.
