Boxer appears in court charged with killing British woman in Greece

  • Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old Afghan boxer, has appeared in an Athens court charged with the homicide of Scottish aid worker Elisabeth-Jane Ross.
  • Ms Ross, 38, was discovered by a homeless man in a derelict building in the Kypseli area of Athens on 18th July, with authorities identifying her using fingerprints.
  • Ahmadzai faces charges of homicide with intent, equivalent to murder in Scotland, and allegations of stealing over 10,000 euro from Ms Ross's bank accounts.
  • During his court appearance, Ahmadzai did not speak or enter a plea, and the judge ordered him to be held in pre-trial detention while further evidence is gathered.
  • Police allege Ahmadzai sent messages from Ms Ross's phone to her family and friends, and later impersonated a jihadist to her friends, claiming he killed her due to her religion.
