TAWAU: Police arrested a 17-year-old boy suspected of being involved in illegal racing and riding a motorcycle dangerously at around 3pm on Wednesday.

The boy, who was seen riding at high speed before crashing while attempting a “wheelie” stunt, was caught in eight-second video that has since gone viral on social media.

The suspect and a group of other motorcyclists who gathered along Jalan Chong Thien Vun at around 11.30pm last Saturday were suspected of engaging in illegal racing.

“The teenager injured his leg, ankle and hand but has received treatment at a nearby private clinic,” he said.

He suspected the boy did not possess any driving licence and that the Yamaha 125ZR motorcycle he used during the incident, which belonged to his friend, along with a red helmet, was seized from a residence in Tanjung Batu Laut.

“Police are investigating the suspect under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987, Section 26 (1) of the RTA 1987, and Section 90 (1) of the RTA 1987,” he said.
