KOTA KUALA MUDA: A seven-year-old boy died after being hit by a car while crossing a road here last night.

The victim, Muhammad Ammar Zamri, was a pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kota Kuala Muda.

Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the incident occurred at 9.23pm along Jalan Kota Kuala Muda.

He stated that the boy is believed to have suddenly crossed the road in front of a moving Perodua Myvi.

“The car, driven by a man, was travelling from Kota Kuala Muda towards Pulau Sayak when the victim suddenly crossed in front of the moving vehicle,” Hanyan said in a statement today.

“The close distance left the driver with no time to avoid the collision.”

The victim sustained injuries and was taken to the Kota Kuala Muda Health Clinic.

He was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the clinic.

Police received a report about the incident at 9.45pm.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
