Boy George withdraws from West End musical after ‘careful consideration’

• Boy George has withdrawn from Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar, where he was scheduled to play King Herod.
• His manager, Paul Kemsley, said that the decision was made after “careful consideration”, to prevent the musical from being overshadowed by controversy and to allow the cast and crew to “move forward with mutual respect and goodwill”.
• Backlash has been mounting against Boy George after he released a new reggae song called “We Will Dance Again”, which defends Israel's military actions and disputes United Nations findings of genocide in Gaza.
• The song's lyrics also criticise the pro-Palestine movement and musicians who have condemned Israel’s actions.
• Kemsley apologised to fans who had bought tickets, saying that the withdrawal was made out of respect for the production's cast and crew.
