LAHAD DATU: A seven-year-old boy was badly injured after being attacked by a crocodile near his house at Kg Air, here, on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 5.55pm when the victim went down from the house to take his chicken.

A cousin who saw a crocodile screamed.

District Police Chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad said the victim ran for his life and climbed back to the bridge but the crocodile managed to grab him.

The victim’s left leg was badly injured and he was rushed to the Lahad Datu Hospital for treatment.

“The victim underwent a surgery and is still undergoing treatment but in stable condition,” Rohan said Saturday.

According to Rohan, the district police have identified 28 locations where crocodile attacks occurred, with 13 of them being in Lahad Datu, three in Tungku, eight in Desa Kencana and four in Tambisan.

He said the information had been forwarded to the Sabah Wildlife Department and District Office.

“We are ready to cooperate with any agency on matters pertaining to reptiles that are endangering the people’s life,” he said, and advised the people to beware the presence of crocodiles, especially at seashores, sea and rivers.
