A disturbing assault case in Johor has led to the arrest of eight individuals—including a woman—after a viral video showed a young man being brutally beaten by a group of people. The incident took place last Friday night in an apartment complex in Plentong Baru Masai, sparking public outrage across social media platforms.

According to Seri Alam Police Chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, authorities received a police report from the 21-year-old victim at 11.30pm on Sunday. Following swift investigation, a police team from the Seri Alam District Criminal Investigation Division arrested all eight suspects at around 2.30am at the same apartment where the assault occurred.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 26, are now under remand for six days until Saturday, as per Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Preliminary checks revealed that five of them have existing criminal records, including for drug-related offenses. Urine tests also confirmed that four tested positive for methamphetamine.

Investigations revealed that the victim had been lured to the apartment by a woman he had connected with through social media. Upon arrival, the situation quickly turned sinister. The victim was forcibly confined and then subjected to a violent assault by multiple men. He suffered injuries including cuts to his lips and ears, along with significant swelling to his body.

Several video clips of the attack have since gone viral, showing a group of men surrounding and assaulting the victim. One particularly disturbing clip shows a man punching and kicking the victim in the groin area.

The case is currently being investigated under Sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 385 (extortion), and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means) of the Penal Code.

The incident has raised serious concerns about online safety and the risks of meeting strangers through social media. Specially meeting first time in a closed area is most often a red flag.
