MELAKA: A 12-year-old boy was found unconscious today after reportedly falling into a river at Taman Ayer Keroh Height here.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of Operations Mohd Shahrom Laji said a distress call was received at 5.53 pm and firefighters arrived at the scene at 7.02 pm.

“The fire brigade searched the water surface and located the victim approximately six metres from where he was believed to have fallen.

“The victim was found unconscious, and initial first aid was administered to the boy,” he said in a statement released here tonight.

Shahrom added that the victim was sent to Melaka Hospital for treatment. The operation involved six fire personnel, assisted by three health officers and four police officers.

Meanwhile, the victim’s grandmother, Kartini Suparto, 73, said that the victim, Muhammad Loqman Afandy, returned home at about 3.30 pm after finishing co-curricular activities in school.

Kartini said her grandson then had lunch before going out to play with his friends near the scene.

“Muhammad Loqman had never gone to play near the area (the scene). He was indeed a good grandson,” she said.
