Kota Kinabalu: The BPA-SESB outreach programme expanded its reach to Pulau Bum-Bum to address complaints from residents with regards on the unavailability of power, despite infrastructure being fully in place.

The initiative, headed by the State Public Complaints Bureau and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in collaboration with the Semporna District Office and relevant state agencies, was aimed at carrying out inspections and information-gathering on the progress of the Zone (2) Electrical Supply Project 2017-2018 (Kg Pantau-Pantau) at Pulau Bum-Bum.

Pulau Bum-Bum is home to an estimated 30,000 inhabitants, with only 1,000 residents currently registered with SESB.

“The completion of the Rural Power Supply (BELB) project will benefit local residents who have long waited for power supply,” said Sabah BPA Director, Pauzi Jhumat who led the inspection team during the outreach programme

According to Pauzi, the BELB project is still within the purview of the Federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) and has yet to be handed over to SESB.

Among those who joined the outreach programme were Sabah BPA Deputy Director, Bong Chow Liang, SESB KK Headquarters Senior Manager of Customer Management Centre, Amir Mahat A.D.K, including Semporna Assistant Deputy District Officer (ADDO), Mr. Eden who is the representative of the Semporna District Office, Manager of SESB South/ Tawau and Manager of SESB Semporna and Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) Esscom and PDRM Semporna, as well as representatives from the Semporna District Public Works Department (JKR).

A meeting chaired by the Semporna District Officer on Nov 7 underlined the need for effective handling of public complaints for the benefit of affected residents, noting the project must provide reliable electrical supply before it’s handing over to SESB.
