The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for continuous heavy rain across seven states, urging residents to prepare for potential disruptions. The heavy rainfall is expected to persist until Wednesday, December 11, bringing risks of flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
According to the advisory issued at 9 am today, severe-level heavy rain is forecast to hit five districts in Pahang: Kuantan, Pekan, Jerantut, Maran, and Rompin. Additionally, the districts of Kemaman and Dungun in Terengganu are also expected to experience prolonged downpours.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall at an alert level is anticipated across the entirety of Kelantan and Perlis. Similar weather conditions are predicted for Hulu Perak in Perak, as well as several districts in Kedah, including Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, and Baling.
Other affected areas include additional parts of Pahang such as Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, and Bera. In Terengganu, districts like Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, and Marang are also on alert. Johor’s Segamat, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi districts are likewise expected to face adverse weather.
MetMalaysia has urged residents in these regions to remain cautious and prepared for emergencies. Those living in low-lying or flood-prone areas are advised to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions. Authorities have emphasized the importance of being ready for potential evacuations and ensuring safety during the rainy period.
The east coast states, often vulnerable to monsoon rains, are particularly at risk. Heavy rains during this time can lead to swift changes in water levels, posing risks to communities and infrastructure.
As the weather conditions unfold, MetMalaysia continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue updates to keep the public informed. Citizens are encouraged to heed warnings, avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas, and prioritize safety for themselves and their families.
With severe weather anticipated, proactive measures and timely responses will be crucial to minimizing the impact of the torrential rains.
