Yesterday evening, a police officer on patrol duty was injured in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor Road. The Perak police chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, revealed that the 34-year-old policeman, who was on a crime prevention patrol with a colleague on a motorcycle, approached a blue Proton Iriz car on the road.

According to the police chief, the driver of the suspect vehicle reversed, colliding with the motorcycle and causing the officer to fall. Subsequently, the suspect moved the car forward, then reversed again, hitting the victim once more before swiftly fleeing in the direction of Tanah Hitam.

The injured officer was left immobile, and a preliminary examination indicated fractures in the ribs and shoulder. Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri stated that the incident is currently under investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code, and efforts are underway to locate the driver of the car.

In response to the incident, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. ASP Norazuna Rais Ahmad can be contacted at 013-6282176, or individuals can visit the nearest police station to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Hit-and-run cases are serious offenses that endanger lives and violate traffic regulations. The injured officer's plight emphasizes the importance of accountability and the need for swift justice in such incidents. The police are actively seeking information from the public to aid in apprehending the suspect and ensuring that legal actions are taken.

Road safety and adherence to traffic rules are crucial for the well-being of both law enforcement officers and the general public. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by those on patrol duty and highlights the importance of cooperation from the community in maintaining public safety. Law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to ensure the security and welfare of officers while upholding justice in such cases.
