Kota Kinabalu: Braven Rovers Football Club is preparing to host BRFC Cup Sabah 2026 on Oct 31 while exploring a youth academy and regular adult league for next year.
The registered Sabah club hopes to develop its own players from a young age and give local amateur teams more opportunities to compete.
Its immediate task is the one-day, 11-a-side tournament at Padang Bola Sepak dan Ragbi A and B in Kota Kinabalu, with places for up to 16 teams and RM5,500 in cash prizes.
BRFC head coach Primus Ampaun @ Andrew said: “We want players to have a reason to keep training and teams to have matches to work towards. With BRFC Cup, our first job is to put on a well-run tournament that teams want to return to.
“We are also looking at an academy where we can coach players from a young age and help them grow with the club. A regular adult league could run alongside that. We will use what we learn from this Cup to decide what we can sustain next year.”The academy proposal follows discussions with Coach Denis, who has indicated his availability to coach alongside Primus. Age groups, fees and a training schedule have yet to be decided. Options for the adult competition range from a six-team league to a larger format involving 10 to 12 teams.
SR Marketing Agency is the tournament’s marketing partner, supporting event promotion, branding and outreach to prospective teams through its football networks. BRFC remains responsible for tournament operations and registration.
Trident is the Official Match Ball Partner, with the Malaysian brand’s Galactic ball to be used throughout the competition.
Trident representative Allan Netto said: “Trident is a homegrown brand in Malaysia. What other better way to show our presence than to support our local market and tournaments.”BRFC Cup is open to amateur players aged 15 and above. Active State players are not eligible, while former State players may take part within the tournament’s quotas.
The planned format comprises four groups followed by knockout rounds. Every match will last 20 minutes, with play scheduled from 8am to 6pm across the two fields.
The champions will receive RM3,000, a trophy and medals. The runners-up will take home RM1,500 and medals, while each losing semi-finalist will receive RM500 and medals.
Entry costs RM800 per team. Registration closes on Oct 17 or when all 16 places are confirmed, whichever comes first. A RM400 deposit secures a place, with the balance and final player list due by Oct 24.
