In a recent operation in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, the Immigration Department successfully apprehended a 31-year-old Bangladeshi man suspected of exploiting the Labour Recalibration Programme (RTK) 2.0. The arrest took place at 10 pm, and the suspect is believed to have charged a hefty fee of RM7,000 for each individual registered under the program.

During the raid, Immigration officers not only detained the individual but also seized substantial evidence, including RM2,000 in cash, 188 Bangladesh passports, five Indonesian passports, and four passports each from India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Thailand. Additionally, they discovered RTK 2.0 application forms and a laptop in the possession of the suspect.

According to Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the director-general of Immigration, the arrested individual had been operating for approximately a year, employing a modus operandi that targeted nationals facing Immigration issues, such as lacking valid documents. The suspect's focus was on individuals from countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nepal, and Thailand.

Ruslin elucidated on the suspect's tactics, stating that he offered services like assistance with the RTK 2.0 application at the Immigration Office. However, it was revealed that the detained individual himself did not possess valid documents to be in the country, raising questions about the authenticity and legality of his operations.

As a consequence of the arrest, the 31-year-old man is currently being held at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot. This incident underscores the need for vigilance and strict measures to curb fraudulent activities surrounding immigration programs. The Immigration Department's swift action in uncovering this scheme serves as a deterrent and sends a clear message about the authorities' commitment to maintaining the integrity of such programs.

This incident sheds light on the vulnerabilities within immigration systems and emphasizes the importance of stringent checks and balances to thwart individuals attempting to exploit such programs for personal gain. As the investigation unfolds, it will be crucial to assess the broader implications of such manipulations on the overall effectiveness and credibility of immigration initiatives.
