
Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew, extends her condolences and sympathies to the family of the late Alexzander Kueh Check Boo, 45, who was pronounced dead at 4.30am at the Ranau Hospital on April 25.He and his wife were endeavouring to climb Mount Kinabalu’s highest peak. Based on the symptoms, Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) was believed to be the cause. On April 24, the deceased and his wife, Ng Wee Peo, 35, successfully arrived at Panalaban. The wife complained of a headache and respiratory difficulties at approximately 9pm. The Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) Team gave her oxygen required for first aid. Read more At approximately 2am on April 25, 2km away from Timpohon Gate, the late husband experienced breathing difficulties and muscle cramps. Similarly, he was subsequently stretchered to the Timpohon Gate. The Mountain Rescue operation concluded at 3.40am on April 25, 2023 when both victims were sent to Ranau Hospital by ambulance. Christina requested that Sabah Parks, which falls under her Ministry, assist the deceased’s family wherever necessary. The wife’s condition was reported to be stable after she recovered from AMS. However, she lost her devoted spouse. The Minister, meanwhile, advised future climbers to be more prepared physically and mentally before venturing to climb Mt Kinabalu.
