TAWAU: A driver of Labour Department (JTK) here was fined RM5,000 or six months jail by the Special Corruption Court here, Tuesday, for accepting a RM1,000 bribe six years ago.
Rhymei Kasim, 54, was sentenced by Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of receiving valuables without returning, namely the RM1,000 cash from the manager of Al-Baik Textiles one Samsudeen Rabeek.
The charge stated that Samsudeen who has a relationship with Rhymei’s official work, namely Al-Baik Textiles was compounded by JTK for an offence under Section 18 (1) of the Labour Ordinance for failing to provide a written Service Contract to two of its employees.
Rhymei committed the offence at Bank Rakyat Tawau Branch on 14 April, 2018.

Rhymei was on March 12, 2020, charged with three main charges under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694) involving bribery amounting to RM5,000.
Jason on Tuesday withdrew Rhymei’s main charges after he pleaded guilty to the alternative charge, following an application by the prosecution to withdraw all the main charges against him.
