The red carpet was rolled out at Gateway Cinema 12 in the Araneta Center in Quezon City on January 19 for the premiere of “Spring in Prague,” a Filipino-Czech romantic film from Borracho Film Productions and Czech partner FilmFrame. The special screening was held ahead of the movie’s nationwide release on February 4.

Directed by Lester Dimaranan and written by Eric Ramos, “Spring in Prague” stars Paolo Gumabao and Czech actress Sara Sandeva in a cross-cultural story filmed on location in both the Philippines and the Czech Republic. Gumabao plays Alfie, a Filipino man navigating personal loss, while Sandeva plays Marie, a Czech woman facing changes of her own.

In attendance at the premiere were cast members Marco Gomez, Elena Kozlova and Nhorms McLeod, along with Dimaranan and lawyer-producer Ferdinand Topacio of Borracho Films. Marco, who leads a co-production for the first time, reflected on the experience as both challenging and enriching.

Beyond its narrative, the film was also presented as a symbol of cultural exchange. With ongoing bilateral efforts in trade, tourism and creative collaboration, the project contributes to the growing friendship between the Philippines and the Czech Republic.

Guests at the premiere responded warmly to the film’s theme and scenic visuals. With storylines that move between the cobbled streets of Prague and the sunlit shores of Mindoro, the film adds a visual layer to its attempt at cultural dialogue.

As “Spring in Prague” opens next week, it brings with it not only a new pairing of on-screen leads but an artistic nod to international cooperation through film.
