Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi offered no excuses after their 4-1 defeat at Newcastle.
The result is a blow to Brighton's European hopes.
De Zerbi said: "We are not in the best condition to play so many games in a row. I think we deserved to lose the game, especially in the first half. We suffered a lot with the power of Newcastle. I am sorry for the condition we are playing in in this crucial moment. We have a lot of injuries and we have to analyse the situation.
"We knew before the game it would be a very tough game for us. We could score the second goal but if I speak honestly we deserved to lose the game.
"I have to say thanks to my players. They have an incredible energy and attitude. We are fighting against injuries. My work now is to analyse game by game and thinking we will play three games in nine days.
"We didn't lose any players today, that is good news for us."
