- Solar power supplied a record 14.4 per cent of all electricity generated in Britain last month, surpassing its previous monthly high of 12.4 per cent set in May and significantly increasing from 9.6 per cent in July of the previous year.
- This surge in solar generation was directly attributed to exceptionally sunny conditions, with the UK, England, and Wales all experiencing their sunniest Julys on record, and England and Wales recording their sunniest calendar month ever.
- On 12 July, solar accounted for 18.8 per cent of all power generated, nearing the record of 19.5 per cent set on 24 May, and at its peak that day, it contributed 44 per cent of generation between 10:30 am and midday.
- Separate government figures indicate that solar generation was up by 34.2 per cent on 2024, driven by a leap in solar installations, including the UK’s largest solar farm at Cleve Hill in Kent, with more installations completed in the first half of the year than any previous six-month period since subsidies ended.
- Energy minister Michael Shanks stated that British solar is going 'from strength to strength', contributing to energy security and reducing bills, while industry leaders highlighted solar's evolution into a major player delivering home-grown, cheap, clean, and reliable energy, with renewables now producing around 60 per cent of Britain's electricity.
