British woman, 31, dies after stabbing attack at German train station

A 31-year-old British woman has died from “severe injuries” after being stabbed at a German train station on Sunday morning.

Police were called to Rosenheim railway station at around 12.50am following a report that a woman had been stabbed with a knife.

The victim was taken to hospital and later died, and a homicide investigation is now underway, the Bavarian Police said in a statement.

A 27-year-old German man, from Fürstenfeldbruck, west of Munich, was arrested at the scene immediately after the incident.

It is not clear whether the man and woman knew each other, and police are now investigating the motive of the attack.

The force said: “In the early morning hours of Sunday, a young woman was physically attacked with a knife at the Rosenheim train station.

“Immediately after the attack, the suspect was apprehended by officers from the Federal Police who had arrived at the scene. The young woman later died from her severe injuries at the hospital.

“Under the direction of the Traunstein Public Prosecutor's Office, Rosenheim branch, an investigation is underway on suspicion of homicide.

“The background and motive of the crime are the subject of ongoing criminal investigations.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Germany are in touch with the local authorities.”

Police have urged anyone who witnessed an argument or physical altercation at the train station or have other information to come forward.

Rosenheim railway station is one of the largest passenger stations in Bavaria and a key hub for people travelling to Munich.

The city sits near the border with Austria and is a popular regional tourist destination.
