
KOTA MARUDU: Two brothers had a harrowing experience when their four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle was swept away by strong currents while crossing a concrete bridge in Kampung Sungai Simpangan on Wednesday night.
District Fire and Rescue Station operations officer Asman Omar said both men, in their late 40s, were reported safe following the incident.
Six firefighters were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call via Mers999 at 9.07pm.
According to reports, the Toyota Vigo 4WD was carried away by the swift currents while attempting to cross the concrete road over Sungai Simpangan.
Firefighters rescued one of the victims from the vehicle's roof, while the other, who had exited the car to escape, was found safe by the riverbank, with the operation concluding at 10.24pm.
