Brunei mandates foreign vehicles to have at least three-quarters of a tank of fuel before entry to protect its subsidised fuel supply.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: All foreign-registered vehicles must have at least three-quarters of a tank of fuel before being allowed to enter Brunei, effective tomorrow.

Brunei’s Energy Department at the Prime Minister’s Office said vehicles failing to meet the requirement will be denied entry, except for official government vehicles granted exemption.

The department stated that the updated petroleum product control measures were introduced to safeguard the country’s fuel supply following geopolitical tensions in West Asia since late February.

“The mandatory measure is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure subsidised fuel is used prudently for domestic needs and to safeguard national energy security,” the statement said.

Foreign-registered vehicles are also only allowed to purchase Shell V-Power Gasoline or Shell V-Power Diesel at prevailing market prices.

For Brunei-registered vehicles returning from abroad, the three-quarter tank requirement will be fully enforced from the second entry onwards within a 24-hour period.

All petrol stations in Brunei have also been instructed to tighten verification procedures, including checks on vehicle registration numbers.

Stern action will be taken against any party found using false or altered registration plates, with monitoring and enforcement to be carried out actively.

The public and vehicle owners are advised to comply with the regulation and extend full cooperation to the authorities.
