The update applies to both Islamic and conventional credit cards, with adjustments to how late payment fees are calculated.

Islamic Credit Cards

For Islamic cards, the compensation charge, also known as Ta’widh, will be revised. Currently, customers are charged a minimum of RM10 or one per cent of the outstanding balance as at the statement date, whichever is higher, capped at RM100.

From 25 October, the minimum RM10 charge will be removed. Cardholders will be charged one per cent of the outstanding balance as at the statement date, up to a maximum of RM100.

The same change applies to conventional credit cards. At present, customers are charged a minimum of RM10 or one per cent of the outstanding balance, whichever is higher, subject to a maximum of RM100.

From the effective date, the revised terms will be one per cent of the outstanding balance as at the statement date, capped at RM100.
