Budget 2023: monster project to fix schools, clinics by year-end

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised to finally resolve the perennial issue of dilapidated public schools and clinics by the end of this year, which have been a bane for many Malaysians over the past decades.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said in total, 400 clinics and 380 schools are set to be given immediate attention by the ruling government.

“For decades since our independence, we continue to face the issue of dilapidated schools and clinics. I don’t want this issue to persist any longer.

“This year, we will start a monster project, not a mega project, but to fix 400 clinics and 380 schools.

“The schools have been identified by the Education Ministry while the clinics by the Health Ministry. And we will allocate an additional RM12 billion fund for this reason.

Anwar added that the government will also relax on the tendering for these projects to ensure they can be implemented by year-end.

“Although they will still have to go through the tender process, we will offer some leeway,” he said. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
