Budget 2023: public transport My50 monthly pass to continue

KUALA LUMPUR – The government will continue subsidies for the use of public transport, including maintaining the My50 monthly pass next year, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said when tabling Budget 2023.

“On average, Klang Valley residents who utilise the rail and bus services spend RM200 per month. To reduce this cost, we will continue with the My50 monthly pass initiative. 

“This means that the initiative will subsidise a total of RM150 a month, or RM1,800 a year, for users,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat. 

Zafrul added that RM180 million will be allocated to improve stage bus services, particularly in Melaka, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, and Kuching in Sarawak. 

Additionally, the minister said the government remains committed to continue improving transportation for those living in rural areas. 

In this regard, he said airport services in Sabah and Sarawak will be improved, including by building wheelchair ramps in seven airports. – The Vibes, October 7, 2022
