Budget 2023: women returning from ‘career break’ to get five-year tax exemption

KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM235 million in financing funds to assist women entrepreneurs to increase their business capacity as well as to improve their marketing strategies, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

In tabling the Supply Bill 2023 in Parliament this afternoon, he said among the funds would be through Semarak-Nita BSN, Tekunita under Tekun, Dananita programme under Mara, and Bizlady Bank Rakyat.

To solidify women’s role in the working world, women returning to work after a “career break” will be given a tax break from 2023 to 2028.

Additionally, parents are also entitled to a RM3,000 tax exemption for nursery and kindergarten enrolment until 2024.

To encourage more women to return to the workforce after a “career break”, he said, they will be given a tax exemption from 2023 to 2028.

“In addition, parents are also entitled to a RM3,000 tax exemption for taska and kindergarten enrolment until 2024.”

He said a total of RM11 million has also been allocated in the budget to increase breast cancer screening tests, mammograms, and cervical cancer screening tests.

An anti-sexual harassment tribunal, he added, will be set up to focus on all sexual harassment issues.

“There will be a Social Support Centre for those suffering domestic violence, with an allocation of RM8 million.” – The Vibes, October 7, 2022
