KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM38 million to increase the productivity of the country’s judicial institution, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In tabling the Supply Bill 2024 (Budget 2024) in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said that this allocation covers infrastructure repair costs, as well as costs to upgrade information and communication technology (ICT) facilities.

RM20 million of the allocation is to empower the Judicial Academy Malaysia and the Judicial Syariah Academy Malaysia to train court judges in a more planned and effective manner.

Besides that, Anwar said that RM18 million will be allocated for legal reform initiatives, including laws on substitute sentences for the mandatory death penalty.

The prime minister added that the judiciary is an independent institution that upholds the federal constitution and the rule of law. – October 13, 2023
