Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that parents, including single mothers, will soon enjoy broader income tax relief for childcare and early education expenses under Belanjawan MADANI 2026.
Expanded Relief For Parents And Single Mothers
Starting from the 2026 assessment year, the existing RM3,000 income tax relief for childcare and kindergarten fees will be expanded to include daycare and after-school transit centres for children up to 12 years old.
Previously, the relief applied only to fees paid to registered TASKA (childcare centres) and TADIKA (kindergartens) for children aged six and below. The new expansion recognises the ongoing challenges faced by working parents and single mothers (ibu tunggal) who depend on reliable childcare while managing work and family responsibilities.
Supporting Working Families And Single Parents
This measure aims to ease financial pressure on households, particularly single parents who often face higher childcare costs with limited income. By extending tax relief to cover older children, the government hopes to make quality childcare and after-school programmes more affordable and accessible.
It also complements other Belanjawan MADANI 2026 initiatives that provide legal and financial assistance for 5,000 single mothers, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to supporting women’s economic participation and family stability.
Encouraging Early Education And Safe Supervision
Both TASKA, which care for children under four, and TADIKA, which provide preschool education for children aged four to six, are essential in early childhood development. By including after-school transit centres, the relief also ensures that children up to 12 years old have access to safe, structured care while their parents are at work.
