Budget 2026: RM120 Million Allocated for Low-Income Families to Get Free PTPTN Education

While presenting Budget 2026 in Parliament today (10 October), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will provide free National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) education for children from low-income families.

Anwar explained that 5,800 children from low-income families studying at public universities (IPTA) will get free PTPTN education, with an allocation of RM120 million.

Travel restrictions to be reimplemented for PTPTN defaulters

The government will also waive PTPTN loan repayments for students from low- and middle-income families who graduate with a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree at IPTA, benefiting around 6,000 borrowers with an annual allocation of RM90 million.

Additionally, borrowers who can repay their loans but work overseas and fail to do so will face travel restrictions abroad.
