Budget 2027 raises funding to RM200 million to reduce hospital waiting times, expand private healthcare partnerships and improve access to screening and rehabilitation.

PETALING JAYA: The government will increase the allocation for outsourcing patient treatment to other hospitals to RM200 million in 2027 to reduce waiting times, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar said the scope of collaboration would be expanded to include the use of private healthcare facilities, including operating theatres, by the public healthcare sector.

He added that more flexible sessional arrangements would be introduced for retired government specialists and private-sector specialists, with the maximum appointment duration extended.

“The scope of the programme will also be expanded to cover expanded newborn screening, prenatal genetic testing and rehabilitation,” he said.

The measures are aimed at improving access to treatment and easing pressure on public healthcare facilities.
