Tax savings, payroll costs, equipment purchases and financing—here’s what business owners should review before finalising their plans.

Up to RM6,000 in annual tax savings could give qualifying businesses some welcome breathing room.

Before building that saving into your budget, check whether your company qualifies—and which other Budget 2027 measures could affect your expenses and cash flow.

Here are five changes worth checking.

1. Could Your Company Save the Full RM6,000?

From YA 2027, Budget 2027 proposes lower income tax rates for qualifying SME companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs):

  • 15% → 14% on the first RM150,000 of chargeable income.
  • 17% → 16% on the next RM450,000.

The maximum RM6,000 annual saving applies when chargeable income reaches RM600,000 or more. Your actual saving depends on eligibility and taxable income.

2. Does the RM2,000 Minimum Wage Apply to Your Business?

The Government has announced plans to raise the minimum monthly wage from RM1,700 to RM2,000 from June 2027.

Under the Budget announcement, MSMEs with annual sales below RM50 million would be exempted. Businesses should check the applicable implementation and exemption requirements.

For an affected employer, increasing the basic salaries of 10 employees by RM300 each would add RM3,000 to monthly payroll, before related employer contributions and other adjustments.

That makes exemption eligibility an important starting point for your salary budget.

3. Buying Equipment? Check the New Claim Limits

From YA 2027, the proposed per-asset limit for small-value assets increases from RM2,000 to RM3,000.

This would allow more qualifying purchases to receive a full capital allowance in one year.

For companies other than MSMEs, the overall annual claim limit would also rise from RM20,000 to RM30,000.

Before purchasing equipment, check the qualifying conditions and how the allowance would affect your tax position.

4. Could Your Business Qualify for Additional Financing Support?

An additional RM5 billion has been announced for Bank Negara Malaysia’s SME Stabilisation Relief Facility (SME SRF).

The facility supports eligible SMEs, including microenterprises, facing temporary cash-flow pressures arising from the Middle East conflict. It provides access to working capital to help businesses maintain operations.

If your business is affected, review the facility’s eligibility requirements, financing terms and repayment commitments.

5. How You Pay Salaries Could Affect Your Tax Deductions

From YA 2028, companies other than MSMEs would only qualify for salary deductions where payments are made through financial institutions or cashless payment instruments prescribed under the Employment Act 1955.

Affected companies using other payment methods could lose the related deductions. The proposed payment-method condition would not apply to non-salary expenses.

Reviewing your payroll payment process early gives your business time to make any necessary adjustments.

Before You Finalise Your Business Budget

Start with three questions:

  • What applies to us? Check eligibility separately for each measure.
  • What changes our numbers? Update your tax, payroll, equipment and cash-flow forecasts.
  • What needs action? Identify payment processes, records or financing applications that require attention.

A headline tax saving becomes useful when you understand how it fits into your company’s plans.
