The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry is considering El Nino’s impact on agriculture and food security as part of Budget 2027 preparations.
KLANG: The impact of the El Nino phenomenon on the agricultural sector and food security is expected to be among the focuses of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) in preparing the 2027 Budget.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said based on a meeting with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan yesterday, there is a need to make preparations, especially in terms of allocations, to face the risk of the effects of El Nino which is expected to begin this September.
“Apart from the usual allocations (including to the agriculture and fisheries sectors), this is among the additions we discussed yesterday.
“In yesterday’s briefing, the Ministry of Finance is also (expected) to provide for the sudden needs resulting from this change (the effects of El-Nino),” he said after officiating the Agrobank Klang Branch which moved from Lorong Batu 3, Pusat Bandar Klang to Bandar Botanik today.
Meanwhile, Mohamad said Agrobank would continue to strengthen its financial service offerings in the Klang Valley to provide more comfortable facilities with the relocation of the Klang branch premises to Bandar Botanik.
He said the opening of the branch in the commercial area allowed Agrobank to focus on business.
“The new location opens up space for Agrobank to reach out to more individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses. The effort is in line with the aspirations of the MADANI Economy, which is to empower the people.
“Among others, it emphasises economic development which can be translated into an improvement in the quality of life of the people and strengthening the capabilities of entrepreneurs,” he said during his speech at the launch ceremony.
The 159th Agrobank branch was relocated and upgraded from its original location in Klang City Centre, in line with the development of commercial areas and the potential for economic growth around the district.
Meanwhile, Agrobank group president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the relocation and upgrading of the Klang branch was an effort to ensure that its services grow in line with changing customer needs and local economic potential.
“We are always striving to improve customer experience and ensure that our services remain relevant to current needs.
“The upgrade will not only provide a more comfortable banking environment, but will also enable us to offer more comprehensive services to individuals and businesses in the area,” he said.
