Budget 2027 raises female civil servants’ total maternity leave entitlement from 360 to 490 days, allowing up to 98 days for each childbirth.

PETALING JAYA: Female civil servants will be entitled to a total of 490 days of maternity leave throughout their service, up from 360 days, under a new measure announced in Budget 2027.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increase would allow eligible civil servants to take up to 98 days of maternity leave for each childbirth.

“The government has agreed to increase the total maternity leave entitlement throughout the period of service from 360 to 490 days.

“This means maternity leave will increase to a maximum of 98 days for each childbirth,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar also announced an allocation of RM20 million to improve childcare centres at government facilities.
