KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will invest RM1 billion to accelerate the rollout of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system across healthcare facilities nationwide under Budget 2027.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the investment during the tabling of the national budget today, alongside measures to strengthen online safety and combat scams.
The National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) will develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered application to help the public check suspicious phone numbers, bank accounts and links before conducting transactions.
The initiative comes as MCMC has blocked more than 5.7 billion scam-related calls and messages, Anwar said.
The government has also allocated RM490 million to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency.
Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysia Police's D11 division will enhance the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children (MICAC) system with advanced analytical capabilities to identify perpetrators and child sexual exploitation networks at an earlier stage.
MCMC will also intensify the Safer Internet Campaign in schools nationwide, focusing on tackling cyberbullying and child exploitation. - October 9, 2026
