Budget 2027 allocates RM100 million for Klang Valley retention ponds and river maintenance, while plans for Lebir Dam aim to address Kelantan’s flood risks.

PETALING JAYA: The government has allocated RM100 million to develop retention ponds and maintain rivers in the Klang Valley as part of immediate measures to reduce flash flood risks.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the federal and Selangor governments had agreed on five key measures to address recurring flash floods in the region.

“Flash floods in the Klang Valley must be addressed immediately,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The measures include assessing the capacity of Batu Dam and Klang Gates Dam to meet flood management needs over the next 30 years.

Separately, Anwar said the government would begin planning the Lebir Dam project as a long-term solution to flooding and clean water supply issues in Kelantan.

This would complement the ongoing construction of the Machang Water Treatment Plant and the replacement of ageing pipelines.
