Budget 2027 doubles school maintenance funding to RM2 billion and allocates nearly RM1.3 billion to upgrade 682 dilapidated schools, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.

PETALING JAYA: The government has doubled its allocation for school repairs and maintenance from RM1 billion to RM2 billion under Budget 2027, covering all types of schools nationwide.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said national schools would receive RM900 million, while Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools would be allocated RM100 million and RM50 million, respectively.

He said Tamil schools required urgent attention despite having relatively smaller student populations due to the poor condition of their infrastructure.

Meanwhile, RM200 million will be allocated to people’s religious schools, tahfiz institutions and pondok schools registered under the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), with funding expanded to cover operational assistance.

Anwar also announced nearly RM1.3 billion to upgrade 682 dilapidated schools nationwide, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
