Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin welcomed the RM6.9 billion development allocation for Sabah under the 2026 Madani Budget, describing it as a clear indication that the State remains a national development priority.

Jafry, who is also incumbent Sukau Assemblyman, noted that the allocation, an increase from RM6.7 billion in 2025, reflects the Federal Government’s continued commitment to Sabah’s progress.

However, he cautioned that such allocations would not translate into tangible benefits without stable and focused state leadership.

“We must not repeat the mistakes after 2018, when government changes led to numerous people-centric projects being cancelled, delayed or arbitrarily altered,” he said, referring to the period when Parti Warisan took charge.

Jafry also called for more balanced development across Sabah, stressing that rural districts still lag behind in basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity, clean water, education and healthcare access.

“If Sabah truly wants to benefit from this RM6.9 billion allocation, it must be distributed fairly and targeted at rural areas still left behind.

“Development must not be concentrated only in major towns, but spread equitably across the state,” he said.

Jafry added that Sabah needs principled and forward-looking leadership to ensure transparent and effective use of federal funds.

He pointed to the Barisan Nasional administration’s track record as an example of continuity and responsibility in governance.

“During BN’s tenure, we proved that every project meant for the people was not cancelled, but instead continued and improved for their well-being. If given the mandate again, BN will ensure every ringgit of development funds is implemented transparently, efficiently, and directly benefits the people, especially those in rural communities,” he said.

Jafry added that political stability is essential not only for policy continuity, but also for attracting investment, strengthening public confidence, and ensuring that development does not stall midway.
