As the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) is yet to pass its budget for 2025-26 and 2026-27, the developmental projects planned and initiated by the committee have come to a standstill.
The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission, on March 27, had nullified the General House meeting held on January 7, in which the budget for 2025-26 was claimed to have been passed. Following this, the committee cancelled its meeting scheduled for March 31 to pass the budget for 2026-27. It is yet to hold a meeting to pass the budget.
A senior member in the committee said the HSGMC had planned to build a 350-room serai with an underground parking facility in Amritsar, for which land was identified. The foundation stone for the HSGMC’s head office was laid in Kurukshetra in March, and there were also plans to buy land in Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Karnal for the expansion of the gurdwaras, starting a hospital, and two music schools in the state, but all projects have come to a standstill.
HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda, along with several other members of the committee, today held a meeting in Kurukshetra to discuss the future course of action.
HSGMC member and Akal Panthak Morcha leader Harmanpreet Singh, who attended the meeting, said, “Since the budget of 2025-26 and 2026-27 are yet to be passed, the committee hasn’t been able to start any new project. The situation is sending a wrong message to the Sikh community as people have high hopes from the committee. With the decision regarding the Miri Piri institute in favour of the Haryana committee, it is our responsibility to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services, but for that budget is required. Efforts are being made to unite all members and complete the quorum so that the budget is passed.”
Jhinda said, “We held discussions regarding the smooth functioning of the institute, and the pending budget meeting of the committee today. Since the budget is yet to be passed, the committee is only making routine expenses related to salaries, langar, and dharma prachar. A date for the general house meeting will be announced soon. Efforts are being made to ensure that formalities related to the quorum are completed in the next meeting to avoid any further legal issues.”
Meanwhile, Gurmeet Singh, senior vice-president of the committee, said, “The committee president has not been able to pass the budget and convene meetings with quorum. Despite setbacks, he is not resigning. We are making efforts to hold a meeting of the executive body to take decisions regarding the institute, and pass the budget.”
