I am grateful to all readers that ‘likes’ my story “Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of most economies, GDP and employment worldwide” published by newswav.com on 7th October 2026. I value the kind feedback from a distinguished economist, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Anuwar Ali, who's the former Vice Chancellor of National University of Malaysia (UKM). Let me quote him “Tqsm for sharing your very appropriate article. Useful to me because as Chairman of the Technical Committee on National Minimum Wage, we had also discussed these issues. We wait for tomorrow's Budget 2027 Speech by the Honorable Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and InsyaAllah, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will announce the new National Minimum Wage.”

As a veteran human resource (HR) management & development practitioner, and Malaysian Institute of Human Resource of Management (MIHRM) Court of Fellows Member, I have time and again emphasized that “Every Malaysian should be able to find a job that pays enough to support a family - a good job that provides dignity and a sense of pride. I recognized our past and present leaders came together to make investments that would help our country prosper for decades. They built highways to connect the entire country, and helped fund, subsidize or provide loans higher education for Malaysian youth. They supported our scientists, researches, scholars, and engineers as they opened up entire new fields of human endeavor in medicine, physics, IT communications & business.”

Now is the time to be bold and ambitious in building a twenty-first-century economy that benefits everyone, not just those at the top. Madani Government must prioritize the kinds of investments in communities that have been left behind, upgrade infrastructure, clean energy, small business, and manufacturing that will not only create jobs today, but will build opportunity for decades to come.
